Coventry City Academy graduate George Thomas feels he is ready to compete for a place in the starting XI after a positive few weeks of pre-season…
The 19-year old striker spoke to the Coventry Telegraph out in Austria and is determined to make it in to the first-team picture during the 2016/17 season.
Thomas was among the goals during City’s U-21s campaign last year, scoring 11 times for the Sky Blues’ development side. The Welshman averaged a goal a game in the U-21s final five games of the season, whilst making 9 first-team appearances.
Thomas told the Coventry Telegraph: “In previous pre-seasons I have just been happy to be around the team but this year, for me, it’s about breaking through and trying to get a few more starts and score some goals.
“I feel I’m getting closer. I have got stronger over the years here and learned the game from the seniors pros. I feel good, feeling like I can score a few goals this year. I don’t set myself any big targets, I prefer short-term goals and try not to plan too far ahead but make the most of what is happening now.”
