“I was playing in the U-18s last year and now I’m playing against players who were in the Premier League.” - Coventry City’s Darragh Leahy

Irish youth international Darragh Leahy has been speaking to the Coventry Telegraph about his development in the first-team setup at the Sky Blues…

Coventry City's Darragh Leahy has gone from strength to strength since signing his professional contract at the club in June and is relishing the opportunity to come up against ex-Premier League stars during City’s preseason preparations.

The Sky Blues played Norwich at Carrow Road on Tuesday night, with the 18-year old completing 90-minutes and battling the likes of fellow countryman Wes Hoolahan and 6ft 3in striker Kyle Lafferty (pictured).

Leahy commented: “It’s amazing the opportunities you get at this club. One or two players have got injured and you’re straight in and it’s a question of taking your opportunity and grasping it.

“I have given my best and all I can do is see what happens. I was playing in the Under-18s and FA Youth Cup last year and now I’m playing against players who were in the Premier League last season, so it’s a big step up.

“It was a great experience playing against so many international guys at Norwich, especially the Irish boys who played in the Euros; great to test myself.

“You just have to take it as it comes. You look at the names on the teamsheet and get excited about facing these players and I really enjoyed it.”
