The 22-year old spoke of the competition for starting places ahead of the weekends clash against Scunthorpe United...

Sky Blues midfielder, Gael Bigirimana, stresses that the club are still in a good position in League One after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to fellow play-off hopefuls, Southend United.

Bigirimana played a full 90 minutes against Southend, as regular starter, John Fleck, is out through suspension.

The Newcastle loanee spoke of the clubs’ great start to the season and the competition for a place in the starting line up.

Bigirimana said: “We still believe, we are still in a good place in the table.

“The club has had a great season so far, we can’t throw anything away. We got to believe and we got to start getting back to the mindset of winning games.

“We got to have, find ways to unlock teams, whether it’s home [or] away.

“These nights you learn from them. But we got to believe and keep our head up and try to focus on our next game.”

The Sky Blues are currently preparing for a home tie with Scunthorpe United next Saturday, as they look to reverse a dip in form and the 22-year-old knows there is competition for the first XI.

He added: “I’m here to help Coventry, you know if the manager picks me I try and give my best.

“Whether it’s with Vincelot or with Flecky. It’s not about, the competition [for places] is good, but ultimately it’s about us winning.

“It’s about us getting that standard of winning games.”
