MATCH REPORT: Barnsley 3-0 Coventry City - Rose and Hunt complete 90 minutes in Tykes defeat

18 January 2016

The Sky Blues suffered defeat as Martin Lorentzson also got 45 minutes under his belt in Barnsley....

Coventry City duo Andy Rose and Stephen Hunt completed 90 minutes for the Under-21s against Barnsley.

The Sky Blues suffered a 3-0 defeat to the Tykes as defensive errors cost City badly, with City boss Tony Mowbray watching on.

It was the away side which started brightly as Hunt made an early impression winning a left-sided free-kick in the first minute and his delivery found Reece Ford at the back-post who had his goal-bound effort blocked.

A bright start continued for City as in the 6th minute as Callum Maycock and Hunt shared a nice one-two before he found George Thomas on the edge of the area, but after turning his defender, his shot was well saved.

Completely against the run of play, Barnsley went ahead two minutes later. Harry White's free-kick found George Maris in the area who scooped home to put the home side ahead.

Sambou should have equalised a minute later but he fired a Hunt cross over first-time. Barnsley doubled their lead when George Williams' free-kick somehow found it's way into the City net in the 38th minute.

Devon Kelly-Evans fired a shot wide just after the break before substitute Jacob Whitmore cleared a White effort off the line with 20 minutes remaining.

With 10 minutes left, Maris scored his second of the game with a solo effort to compound a miserable day for City.
