MATCH REPORT: Coventry City 1-2 Sheffield United - Stevenson stars as Under-21s suffer defeat

Ben Stevenson caps off positive display with a second-half goal as City suffer defeat at the Alan Higgs Centre...

Coventry City Under-21s were left ruing individual errors as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Sheffield United.

The Sky Blues came into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday last week with Jack Finch, Ben Stevenson and Kyle Spence continuing their run in the side.

It was City who started the stronger. Six minutes into the game, Devon Kelly-Evans twisted and turned on the left-flank to cross for the trialist who could only place wide from six yards out.

City continued to press with Stevenson at the centre of everything good for the home side. He latched onto a loose ball 25-yards out and unleashed a fierce drive towards goal which forced an outstanding save out of Aaron Ramsdale 13 minutes in.

Despite the eearly dominance, the Blades went ahead as the defence were guilty of giving the ball away high up the pitch for Italy Under-21 international Diego De Girolamo to slot home from 12 yards out in the 20th minute.

Jake Wright dragged a shot wide two minutes later before United stretched their lead in a poor ten-minute spell for the Sky Blues. De Girolamo found the bottom corner after a neat turn as United took control of the game.

George Thomas should have pulled the home side back into the occasion as Stevenson put him in behind but Ramsdale got down well to deny him before the break.

The second-half saw the Sky Blues produce a much better performance as Kelly-Evans found the trialist once again on the right but his shot was well saved in the 53rd minute.

City pulled themselves back into the game when Man of the Match Stevenson forced an error out of the United defence and confidently slotted home with just over 30 minutes remaining.

City pressed throughout the second-half with Spence creating several opportunities from the left but the Sky Blues couldn't make them count as United take the points.
