City's new boss will look to bolster his squad when the winter transfer market opens...

After stepping down as the club’s interim boss, Technical Director Mark Venus is pleased with his successor as Coventry City manager.

Russell Slade joined the Sky Blues this week, on a deal until the end of the current season, and has been tasked with dislodging City from the relegation zone.

Mark Venus commented on the appointment: “We’re aware of where we are and what we have to do to try and get out of this situation. The club feels that Russell is the right man and the right person to do that.

“We’ve got a transfer window coming up which we need to make use of. I’ve openly said it is evident that the team need a bit of help.

“My role is back to where it was, and again I’ll be working to try and make the club better. The manager will highlight the players he wants and we’ll put all the funds together that we can to get as many of those targets as possible.

“We’ve got a little list already, I’m pleased he has come in with some ideas and some targets. That is important.”

City travel to Bristol Rovers on Boxing Day, where Slade will assume the role of manager in the dugout for the first time since his appointment.

The January transfer window is also high on the list of the manager’s priorities, with some player targets already identified.

Venus added: “It is an advantage that he knows what he wants, and we’re going to try very hard to support that. He leads from today and he’ll be picking the team against Bristol.

“He’s a bubbly character, looks on the positive side of life and that is what we need. A bright leader.

Asked if the new manager can get the club out of the bottom four, Venus replied: “Definitely.”
