COMMUNITY: Five Sky Blues players make a visit to Race Leys Infant School

14 December 2016

Organised by SBitC, the CCFC players took part in PE sessions and helped the children in their lessons...

Race Leys Infant School children had the opportunity to meet Coventry City stars Jodi Jones, Ruben Lameiras, Lee Burge, Jack Finch, and Daniel Agyei when they visited the Bedworth school.

The visit was organised by Sky Blues in the Community and Coventry City FC as part of the new Premier League Primary Stars project with the players attending straight from training to visit the pupils.

The first part of the lesson saw the children ask the players a variety of questions about what it’s like to be a professional footballer and their participation in sport and PE when they were younger. This was followed by the players taking part in the FUNdamentals based PE lesson with the children.

The Premier League is using the appeal of football and sport to inspire the younger generation and looks to make a positive impact in primary schools all over the country.

The PE lesson was based around the Premier League core values, which are: be ambitious, be connected, be inspiring and be fair. The lesson highlighted these values and the Coventry City players enthusiasm helped to engage the children. During the lesson it was clear the children were mimicking the actions of their favourite players and the children without a doubt went away inspired by the City players present.

'Keeper Lee Burge said: “It’s great to see so many children enjoying sport. The Premier League Primary Stars project really encourages young people to become engaged with physical activity” while midfielder Jodi Jones commented “As a youngster I really enjoyed PE and it no doubt had an influence on my ambitions to become involved in sport. This project is giving the children an opportunity to become inspired and find enjoyment through sport.”

SBiTC Senior Community coach Aaron Hill said: “It’s great the players could find time to come and speak with the children involved in the Primary Stars project. They have been great with the kids and immersed themselves into the lesson.”
