“We’re undefeated at home this season and it was important we maintained that.” - Coventry City’s Ruben Lameiras

The Sky Blues register their first points of this season's EFL Trophy competition with a comfortable win over the Hammers...

Portuguese forward Ruben Lameiras was on the scoresheet once more this evening as the Sky Blues cruised to victory against West Ham’s U23 side.

The result continues City’s unbeaten home record, a run which has now stretched to five games, and the 21-year old was pleased to see his curled effort nestle in the corner of the net.

He said: “I’m always happy to help the team with a goal, but most important was to get something from the game. We’re undefeated at home and it was important we maintained that.

“We need to build on this performance and make the Ricoh a fortress over the season. Winning breeds confidence and we’ll take that momentum on to Fleetwood at the weekend.

“There were a lot of changes over the summer and that’ll take time to adapt to, we’re working hard on the training pitch and we know the results will come.”

The Sky Blues travel to Fleetwood Town at the weekend, as they go in search of their first League One victory. The Cod Army are eighth in league standings, and also got off to a winning starting in the EFL Trophy having beaten Blackburn’s U23’s 1-0 this evening.

Lameiras finished by giving his assessment of tonight’s game: “We were disappointed with the first-half, we feel like we came out a little bit slow. But second-half we pressed higher and got after the ball a bit more, that is where we got our rewards.

“We said from the off that it doesn’t matter whether there is 30 in the crowd or 30,000, we have a job to do and that is to get a result.”
