The Sky Blues make Gael Bigirimana their latest summer recruit as he joins from the Magpies on a one-year deal...

Coventry City have re-signed Newcastle United midfielder Gael Bigirimana on a permanent transfer until the end of the season.

The Sky Blues have snapped up the 22-year old to add depth to the midfield as the former City Academy graduate returns to the club.

Bigirimana began his career at the club's Academy and signed his first professional deal with the Sky Blues in June 2011, making his professional debut on the opening day of the 2011/12 season against Leicester City.

'Bigi’, as he’s more commonly known, impressed during the 2011/12 campaign, making 26 league appearances, with then-Premier League side Newcastle United signing him for an undisclosed fee in July 2012.

He spent the majority of the 2015/16 campaign on loan in the West Midlands and has now made the move permanent, as he takes the #5 shirt at the club.

City boss Tony Mowbray said: "I'm looking forward to working with Gael again and I'm sure he'll add a valuable option to our midfield third.

"We're in an extremely busy period of fixtures so it is important we have depth in key areas. We know from last season the quality Gael can offer to the squad and I think he is pleased to be back in the West Midlands.

"Gael is still young, but having married in the summer and moving back ‘home’, I think we have signed a more mature and focused footballer. I am sure he can rediscover the form that made him such a popular player in his first spell at the club.”
