NEWS: “In this league, you should never write yourself off.” - Coventry City’s Gael Bigirimana

Bigirimana sets his sights on securing a starting position for the Sky Blues in the remaining six League One games...

Sky Blues midfielder Gael Bigirimana has forced his way back in to the plans of Tony Mowbray of late, as he hopes to gain some consistency in the starting XI.

The Newcastle loanee played 90 minutes against Gillingham last weekend and has expressed his intent to secure a position in Mowbray’s starting line-up. Bigirimana has made ten appearances during his loan spell at the Sky Blues this season.

The midfielder said: “Goals have dried up, it can happen to every team. But we can't throw the towel in, any team in this league with momentum can go five games winning on the bounce. That is the belief we have to have.

“At the moment I keep my eye on Newcastle, but my concentration is at Coventry. Wherever Newcastle finish, its football. You get on with it. My focus is at Coventry and trying to fight for this club.”

The Sky Blues travel to Wigan this weekend, with the home side having scored the most goals in League One this season (70).

If selected, Bigirimana will be looking to disrupt the league’s top scorers and give his back line some solidity in midfield.

The 22-year old added: “I try and get on the ball in different areas of the pitch. You have to put a shift in for the team.

“When I first broke through, I played on the right of a diamond shape. You have to have a lot of energy and stamina in that position. If the manager asks me to do a job in any position, I’ll work at it. Hopefully I can get a run and enjoy my football again.”
