Coventry City were made to rue their missed chances as they earned their second consecutive 0-0 draw against Rochdale at Spotland.
In a tight affair, Reice Charles-Cook remarkably kept his fifth clean sheet in a row but at the other end, Adam Armstrong had two good chances to net while debutant Joe Cole went close on two occasions himself.
Cole was lively on his debut and lasted just short of an hour, while Jim O'Brien and Aaron Phillips started alongside him after missing the Blackpool game. Bryn Morris also made his second start of the season - his first was in this fixture earlier in the season in the Capital One Cup.
The Sky Blues had a glorious chance to go ahead after just 11 minutes, when O'Brien threaded in a wonderful pass from deep which released Armstrong one-on-one, but the Newcastle loanee scuffed his effort from just outside the area which meant Josh Lillis could deny an opener with his feet.
Shortly after, Cole had a good chance as he went through at an angle after a great flick on from Marc-Antoine Fortune, but the new signing scuffed an effort from just inside the area with his left-foot well wide.
Dale had a great chance of their own ten minutes before the break when Calvin Andrew nodded on a long ball and Donal McDermott got on the end of it in the area and should have scored, but he blasted a volley inches wide of the left post from six-yards.
Cole and Fortune then had decent openings themselves, with Cole hitting a shot wide from the edge of the area before Fortune had an effort well saved by Lillis in the area just before the break.
It didn't take long for the Sky Blues to create another clear-cut opportunity after the break, when another lovely pass from O'Brien once more saw Armstrong go through one-on-one just four minutes into the second-half, but the striker's deft touch wasn't enough to beat Lillis who got down and read it well to save. Moments afterwards at the other end, Charles-Cook did well to deny Joe Bunney, who hit a firm effort at the back post which the keeper did excellently to stop.
On 57 minutes, Cole and Fortune then made way for Marcus Tudgay and Ryan Kent and Kent was involved instantly, when a clever ball from Romain Vincelot released him into a dangerous area and he cut inside on the right and had a left-footed effort which was straight at Lillis when eight-yards out.
The Sky Blues were on the front foot for the remainder of the game and Jacob Murphy came on for Armstrong in order to try and snatch a late winner.
But Dale had a great chance with five minutes to go to get a winner, when Jamie Allen chests in the area and hit a firm effort which flew inches wide of the left post from eight-yards.
City couldn't create any late drama themselves for a second consecutive away game and took a point away from Spotland.
