MATCH REPORT: Sheffield United 3-0 Coventry City - City beaten but not outclassed in Sheffield

The Sky Blues were beaten at Stocksbridge but were by no means outclassed...

Coventry City Under-21s were beaten 3-0 by Sheffield United, with a scoreline that was slightly harsh on the Sky Blues.

The Sky Blues traveled to Stocksbridge to face the Blades with Lee Burge in goal and Conor Thomas, Ryan Haynes, Ben Stevenson, Lateef Elford-Alliyu Dion Kelly-Evans were the other pros who started for Lee Glover's side.

City started the brighter and almost took the lead after 11 minutes, when the Trialist, who played right-back, found Kelly-Evans who chipped a ball to Elford-Alliyu, but the striker volleyed over when well placed.

Elford-Alliyu had another chance when great work from Thomas released him on the edge of the box, but he fired his effort over.

United had the lead six minutes before the interval though, when CJ Hamilton burst down the right wing and cut inside to place the ball in the bottom corner.

City had a big chance to go level before half-time when the Trialist's right sided cross was only half cleared and Thomas fired over after seizing on the poor clearance.

After an even start to the second-half, the Sky Blues found themselves 2-0 down when a defensive error allowed Jake Wright space to get in behind and cross for substitute Diego De-Girolamo to tap in.

With nine minutes to go, United had a third rather against the run of play, when Hamilton found De-Girolamo on the edge of the area and he put the ball in the bottom corner.

That was the last real action as the Sky Blues were beaten but were by no means outclassed as the scoreline may suggest.
