ON THIS DAY: Coventry City secure historic Premier League survival on the final day against Tottenham Hotspur!

11 May 2015

The Sky Blues staved off relegation on this day 18-years ago with a memorable win against Spurs...

Coventry City secured one of the greatest escapes in history on this day back in 1997.

Things were looking perilous for the Sky Blues in the Premier League as they travelled the White Hart Lane to face Tottenham Hotspur, hoping that Sunderland and Middlesbrough would slip up.

City kicked off 15 minutes late, mirroring the famous Bristol City clash in 1977 which also kept the Sky Blues away from relegation.

That 15 minute delay didn't affect the team early on, as Dion Dublin and Paul Williams launched City into a two goal lead, before Paul McVeigh made it 2-1.

The delayed kick-off meant City were clinging on as they knew that Sunderland had lost and Middlesbrough had drawn against Leeds.

Steve Ogrizovic made an incredible save to deny McVeigh and after more heroic rearguard action, the Sky Blues held on for a historic win and a memorable Premier League campaign.

Below are the highlights from that magical day 18-years ago, if your nerves are up for it!
