On Saturday 11th April 2015, Sky Blues in the Community will be hosting a 5-a-side football tournament to raise awareness and money for Prostate Cancer UK, with new Coventry City boss Tony Mowbray getting behind the event.
The Sky Blues are encouraging local men to team up with their colleagues, friends and family to enter into the tournament and help raise funds to support the fight against prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK with over 40,000 men being diagnosed with prostate cancer every year.
Prostate Cancer UK is the Official Charity Partner of The Football League – aiming to reach millions of football supporters through engagement activity across football grounds to raise awareness of the disease. Sky Blues in the Community’s 5-a-side football tournament will take place locally at Goals Soccer Centre in Coventry on Saturday 11th April 2015, kicking off at 9:00am. Entry fee for teams is £30 and 100% of the money raised through this tournament will go directly to Prostate Cancer UK – helping fund vital research and support services.
This tournament forms part of Sky Blues in the Community’s InForm project – funded by The Big Lottery and dedicated to supporting local men. The project supports men to become regularly physically active through free football & fitness sessions; educates men about their health and ultimately encourages men to adopt realistic healthy habits.
New Sky Blues boss Tony Mowbray said: “The Sky Blues in the Community Prostate Cancer 5-a-side tournament is a fantastic way of engaging our fans and at the same time helping to promote an important message about men’s health.
“Seeing the football club and the players take an active role in the community is essential for the long-term success of Coventry City, and events like the Prostate Cancer tournament is an excellent way of demonstrating our commitment to connecting with the people of Coventry and Warwickshire.”
