Coventry City midfielder James Maddison is looking forward to linking up with new signing Ruben Lameiras as the pair played 56 minutes together in the 1-1 draw against Luton Town.

The Sky Blues duo linked well at times during the draw at Kenilworth Road and the Portuguese had a hand in Maddison's opening goal.

The 18-year old is looking forward to playing with the former Tottenham play-maker and believes they were immediately on the same wavelength from when Lameiras started at the club on trial.

"I'm pleased Ruben has signed," Maddison said.

"Having trained with him when he was on trial I can see he's an exciting player. Straight away I feel we were on the same wavelength and we're similar sorts of players.

"Hopefully we can link up throughout the season, he's a good lad and let's hope he can be a big player for us."

Maddison netted just after half-time against the Hatters, when Lameiras combined with Danny Swanson on the left and the ball fell to the Academy graduate to tap in.

The goal wasn't enough for a victory, but Maddison is adamant that the players are continuing to improve and gel as the pre-season schedule continues.

He added: "I think they're a bit ahead of us in terms of pre-season and we definitely could have done more to prevent the goal.

"But we're continuing to work on thing in training and in these games and we're continuing to gel. We are working to get it right and we have a few games to go.

"We're working hard on the training ground and we're keen to keep improving."
