SIGNING: Coventry City agree one-year deal with defender Reda Johnson

10 July 2015

City manager Tony Mowbray wants to see Johnson make more appearances next season as "a crucial part of our plans"...

Coventry City defender Reda Johnson has signed a new one-year deal with the club.

The 27-year old has penned a new deal which keeps him with the Sky Blues for the 2015/16 season after talks with manager Tony Mowbray.

Johnson made 22 appearances during the 2014/15 season, scoring six goals, including a brace on his debut in the 3-2 defeat at Bradford City.

The central defender played the last five games of the season to help City retain their League One status last season.

Mowbray said: "As I've stated previously, I see Reda as a crucial part of our plans going forward.

"He stands out at this level in central defence and at the end of last season, our defensive performances were much improved with him in the side.

"It is no secret that we'd like to see him make more appearances during a season but with the help of physiotherapy department, I'm sure we can manage him in a way to help him do that.

"Also, he carries a significant goal threat from set-pieces and if we're going to succeed, we need goals from all around the pitch next season."
