The City defender spoke to BBC Coventry and Warwickshire after the 0-0 pre-season draw against Nuneaton Town...
Coventry City defender Sam Ricketts believes there is no reason the Sky Blues could build on any potential promotion from League One.
The 33-year old signed for the Sky Blues on a one-year deal last week and featured in the second-half of the 0-0 draw against Nuneaton Town.
Ricketts told BBC Coventry and Warwickshire that teams have been known to bounce through to the Premier League following promotion from the third tier.
The defender said: "The ambition is promotion - everyone wants to be out of this league and playing up a level.
"Teams that have been in League One before have been able to build and stabilise and go through all the way to the Premier League.
"First and foremost we need to be competitive in this league but, in the years ahead, there's no reason why Coventry can't do that."
