MATCH REPORT: Manchester City 8-2 Coventry City - George Thomas and Devon Kelly-Evans with the goals for City

14 January 2015

The Sky Blues were dumped out of the FA Youth Cup after an impressive performance by the Category One Manchester City...

Coventry City Under-18s were heavily defeated in the FA Youth Cup fourth-round by a dominant Manchester City at the new MCFC Academy stadium.

The Citizens put eight past the Sky Blues as Brandon Barker grabbed the headlines with an impressive hat-trick as George Thomas and Devon Kelly-Evans got two for City.

It didn't take long for the home side to take the lead, under two minutes in fact as Brandon Barker slotted home past Jake Richards after the City defence failed to get near the wide-man.

Manchester City continued to pressure the Sky Blues and soon the goals started to flow for the home side as Theivy Ambrose doubled the lead in the 18th minute and Barker added a third six minutes later.

After the half-hour, Ambrose grabbed his second of the game as he latched on to Celina's cross to get the fourth and the fifth came two minutes later when Barker sealed his hat-trick with a wonderful curling effort.

The Sky Blues won a penalty in the 39th minute as a well-worked corner saw captain Cian Harries fouled by Adarabioyo in the area and George Thomas slotted home to make it 5-1.

The home side found a sixth when Richards could only punch a right-sided cross to the edge of the area and Maffeo volleyed home.

The Sky Blues started the half with confidence but fortune wasn't on their side as Dilrosun benefited from a lucky deflection to slot home a seventh.

The best goal of the night came in the 65th minute and it came from Jason Farndon's City side. A flowing City move which included seven City players was finished by Devon Kelly-Evans as Jordan Shipley's shot was parried to make it 7-2.

Manchester City got the tenth of the game as Denzeil Boadu rounded Richards in goal to slot home after a defensive mix-up in the 69th minute.

The Sky Blues restricted the home side to few chances in the final 20 minutes of the game as Jason Farndon's side will back to Coventry having been taught a lesson by the Premier League side.
