UPDATE: Coventry City chief executive Steve Waggott rules out manager appointment before MK Dons fixture

Steve Waggott has also said he is working from an 'extremely impressive list of candidates' as the search for a new manager continues..

Coventry City chief executive Steve Waggott has ruled out a manager appointment before the MK Dons fixture this weekend.

Waggott has already met applicants for the position and has meetings scheduled for both today and tomorrow.

Neil MacFarlane and Dave Hockaday are currently preparing the side for the MK Dons game at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday, with kick-off at 3pm, and the Sky Blues chief executive has ruled out an appointment before the weekend's game.

"I've already met candidates for the position and meetings will continue throughout the week," Waggott said. “There has been very positive interest in the position and some very interesting candidates have come forward. It’s vital that we get the right person who is at the right juncture in their career.

"We want to accelerate the process but there will not be an appointment before the weekend's game against MK Dons so it is important fans get behind Neil, Dave and the players for what is a crucial match.

"As I've said before, we've got a mini-season coming up so it's important we get make the right appointment from what is an extremely impressive list of candidates."
