Former Sky Blues boss Atkinson won his first game in charge against West Ham United on this day 20 years ago...
On this day back in 1995, Ron Atkinson took charge of his first game as Coventry City manager and helped lead the side to a win over West Ham United at Highfield Road.
The 2-0 victory helped propel the Sky Blues four places up the 22-team table to 13th place.
In front of 17,556, Zimbabwean international Peter Ndlovu gave City the lead with his third goal of the season. Mike Marsh then netted the second to make the game safe in the second-half.
It was the perfect start for Atkinson, who kept the Sky Blues in the Premier League that season - earning a 16th placed finish in a season which saw four teams relegated.
Atkinson was in charge until November 1996 before moving into a Director of Football role with Gordan Strachan taking his place.
