MATCH REPORT: Crewe Alexandra 0-3 Coventry City - Blair Turgott nets a brace as City record dominant victory

11 February 2015

Turgott's double and George Thomas' strike secured an impressive win for the Under-21s away from home...

Blair Turgott scored twice as the Coventry City Under-21s recorded an impressive 3-0 win over Crewe Alexandra.

George Thomas got the other goal in a dominant display from the Sky Blues.

City started brightly in Dave Hockaday's first game in charge but almost fell behind against the run of play on 12 minutes when the hosts were awarded a penalty, but Reice Charles-Cook saved superbly to deny Brad Inman's effort and showed more great reflexes to sharply deny the rebound.

The penalty didn't stop the Under-21s from dictating the play and they had the lead their play merited on 24 minutes when a wonderful touch and pass from Thomas released Turgott who fired the ball in from close range.

Thoams and Turgott then combined again to double City's lead, as the Welsh youth international sped down the left-hand side and crossed for Turgott who easily finished his second.

City's dominance waned slightly at the start of the second-half as Crewe returned after the interval galvanised.

The Sky Blues adapted to that by looking to play on the break, which almost immediately payed off as Turgott burst forward from his own half before hitting a shot inches wide of the right post.

But with 18 minutes to play Thomas got the goal he deserved as he hit a powerful effort which deflected into the bottom corner.

Turgott was close to getting his hat-trick with a minute to go as his powerful effort was deflected wide, but that was the last of the action as City deservedly took the three points at Crewe.
