"Joe Cole has worked hard on his fitness and he impressed in an 11v11 game on Friday." Coventry City's Tony Mowbray

The Sky Blues boss said that Cole has impressed him in training as he edges ever closer to full fitness...

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray is delighted to have Joe Cole a step closer to being fully fit after he impressed in training at Ryton.

Cole impressed in an 11v11 match at Ryton between the squad, which also saw Adam Armstrong score an unbelievable 45-yard lob.

Mowbray is looking forward to the prospect of unleashing a fully fit Cole on League One and is also pleased with the forward options at his disposal.

"Joe Cole has worked hard on his fitness," Mowbray said.

"He's put in extra work this and there are a few that have been carrying knocks and niggles and we've used this week to work them back towards 100 per cent.

"We did 11v11 in training on Friday, a practice match almost and Joe impressed. He has some amazing talent, he picks it up and drives at people, goes either side with step overs. I've watched his career over many years and his talent is still there, it's up to us get him through so he can contribute to the team.

"Joe's happy to do that and Maddison and Cole were pretty exciting.

"They're both really talented, we could play them together if we needed a goal or had to chase something, other times they'll be on the bench and contribute in different ways. It's a good problem to have - we can pick from Armstrong, Kent, Murphy, Lameiras, Fortune and Tudgay.

"We have some decent options in the forward part of the pitch and we've got to keep them all feeling involved."
