Two players and a manager come under the spotlight as we look at connections between the Sky Blues and the Latics…

Coventry City and Oldham Athletic have shared a number of key men over the years, from players to managers.

Known for his famous quote "I'm the fastest player in the league over a yard", he now enjoys a media career.

After another move to Newcastle went sour, he signed for City in 1992. He scored ten goals in his first six games, which is a Premier League record to this day. He went on to score 25 times in Sky Blue colours, before going to Greek side PAOK Thessaloniki three years later.

Starting his career at Wigan Athletic, he soon earned himself moves to Stockport and then Oldham in 1983. He spent two seasons at Boundary Park, scoring 34 goals in 80 appearances, before a move to fellow Second-Division side Portsmouth in 1985.

The scouse striker scored 233 goals in 535 first class appearances, enjoying a 17 year career at the top of the English game.

Here we feature three men that have represented both clubs, starting with a Sky Blue forward that still holds a Premier League record…
His only full season in charge saw City finish 17th in the Championship, after a promising start. He left in 2008 and has gone on to a media career.

He eventually left and went to Crystal Palace where he enjoyed his most successful period, taking the club from the relegation places of the Championship to the Premier League via the play-offs in just eight months. He left after three eventful years at Selhurst Park, and joined the Sky Blues in 2007.

Appearing in the dugout for both Oldham and Coventry, Dowie took over the Latics in 2002, and managed to steer the club to the League One Play-Offs. However, defeat to QPR in the semi-finals meant that Oldham stayed in the third tier for an eighth season.

He then came to the Sky Blues on an initial 28-day loan that was eventually extended. His only goal for City came in a 3-1 defeat to Tranmere Rovers. After seven appearances in total, he went back to the R's.

He was first spell was at the Latics, where he appeared 15 times, scoring once and impressing manager Lee Johnson with his abilities.

The Canadian winger was sent on loan to both Coventry and Oldham in the 2013/14 season, from his parent club Queens Park Rangers.
