The City midfielder has praised his midfield partner Romain Vincelot ahead of the Southend game...
Coventry City midfielder John Fleck has welcomed the extra competition in midfield and hopes to see players come in over the next week.
The Scottish playmaker has played every minute of every game so far this season and has even scored his first goal of the campaign, in the 3-2 win over Crewe Alexandra.
The City manager Tony Mowbray has added extra man-power to the midfield this season with Romain Vincelot and Bryn Morris coming in, to add to Fleck, Conor Thomas, Jack Finch and Ivor Lawton for the two central midfield positions.
Fleck, who is now in his fourth season with the Sky Blues, hopes the extra competition helps bring out the best in the squad.
The City midfielder said: "There's got to be that competition and over the course of a season, everyone will be used at some point.
"It helps push players in the squad to do more and helps set the players in the team a goal to keep their place in the side throughout the season.
"In certain weeks, you might get a bit tired and fatigue might set in so you definitely need the players on the bench to be ready to step up.
"The higher in the league we go, there'll be more competition because everybody wants to play in a winning team."
Fleck and Vincelot have already struck up an effective partnership in central midfield and has drawn praise from the City boss after recent matches.
Even though it took a few games in pre-season to get used to each other, Fleck says he enjoys playing next to the former Leyton Orient man.
He added: "We did a bit of work in pre-season and we had a few issues as it is always the way when you play with someone new.
"I think we've now come on strong. The manager has given us some positive feedback after games but there is still plenty of work to be done.
"It is a crucial part of the team and we've got to keep up the performances over the course of a season."
