MATCH REPORT: Nottingham Forest U21s 1-2 Coventry City U21s - Conor Thomas taken off in City Ground win

24 August 2015

Conor Thomas taken off as a precaution in dominant City victory at the City Ground against Championship Nottingham Forest...

Coventry City midfielder Conor Thomas was taken off as a precaution in the first-half of the 2-1 win at the City Ground.

Trialist Lateef Elford-Alliyu put the Sky Blues five minutes before the break with a neat City side to reward a dominant first 45 minutes before George Thomas sealed the win straight after the break.

A slow-burner at first as it took City 17 minutes to create the first chance of the game, but one which they should have took.

Jack Finch picked out the run of George Thomas with wonderful 60-yard pass but Thomas failed to find the net as Dimitar Evtimov saved with his feet.

Two minutes later, Finch and Conor Thomas clashed heads as they both attempted to clear the ball. Both players received medical treatment and Thomas was taken off as a precaution having just returned to action from a serious concussion.

Reece Ford replaced Conor Thomas and the Sky Blues continued to dominate the half, as George Thomas failed to find the net after he rounded the keeper in the 39th minute.

Less than a minute later, City got the goal their play deserved. Lateef Elford-Alliyu, who is currently on trial with the Sky Blues, latched onto a fantastic Danny Swanson ball to slot home past Evtimov.

The Sky Blues continued their domination after the break as Thomas finally got the goal his play deserved. He broke the offside trap and latched onto a looped ball to chip the ball over the keeper.

With the two-goal cushion, the Sky Blues went into game management mode and afforded the home side only a handful of chances.

Paul Taylor, the former Peterborough United attacker, broke through the City lines with 12 minutes remaining, but Reice Charles-Cook was out quickly to deny him with his feet.

It took the home side until the final minute of added on time as substitute Kasheme Walton slotted home from inside the area.

However, the final whistle was blown seconds later to seal a impressive victory at the City Ground for the Sky Blues.
