BEST FIVE-A-SIDE: James Maddison picks his best five-a-side teams in line with our new PUSB programme feature

3 April 2015

In a website exclusive, Maddison reveals his best five-a-side team in the world and the best he has played with and against here...

Just one of the features we run in our matchday programme PUSB from your Sky Blues squad is our five-a-side feature, where we ask a member of your City squad who they would pick in their best five-a-side team and the best five they have played with!

As a result, we thought we would bring this to the website too, so we asked midfielder James Maddison who he would pick in his two squads! Don't forget that we will be bringing you a new player every week in PUSB between now and the end of the season!

MADDISON'S CURRENT WORLD FIVE-A-SIDE:

GK - IKER CASILLAS

"You can't beat Casillas in goal," Maddison says - his record backs that up. Three Champions League titles, five La Liga titles and a World Cup and European Championship win are just scratching the surface of Casillas' honours.

DF - PHILLIP LAHM

Skippered Germany to World Cup glory in the summer. A Bayern legend, Lahm is "the perfect five-a-side defender" according to Maddison as he has helped Bayern to top spot in the Bundesliga and a Champions League last-16 clash.

MF - DAVID SILVA

One of the Premier League's most in form talents, Silva gets the nod in Maddison's side, as he has 13 goals in 38 appearances as City continue to challenge for Premier League honours.

MF - NEYMAR

Maddison claims the Brazilian captain has what it takes to "be the best player in the world for a long, long time." The 23-year old has improved in his second season with the Catalan giants, netting 26 goals in just 37 appearances.

ST - CRISTIANO RONALDO

Current Balon d'Or winner Ronaldo tops of Maddison's side with the Real Madrid forward improving his incredible Champions League record recently, becoming the first player to score 35 goals in the knockout stages. Maddison hails Ronaldo as his idol and "the greatest ever."

MADDISON'S BEST FIVE-A-SIDE HE'S PLAYED WITH AND AGAINST:

"This isn't going to be as good as others in the squad, but here it is anyway!" Maddison says.

GK - Joe Murphy - Now with Huddersfield, Murphy made over 150 appearances for the Sky Blues between 2011/14.

DF - Jordan Clarke - The City Academy graduate, now with Scunthorpe, returned to the Ricoh Arena two months ago with his new club in the 1-1 draw.

MF - Franck Moussa - Maddison claims the goals Moussa scored in training were "unbelievable," meaning he had little competition in getting into Maddison's side.

MF - Barry Bannan - Maddison faced Bannan in the Under-21s against Palace earlier in the season and says he was his toughest opponent to date.

ST - Andrew Johnson - The former Premier League star played against Maddison for Palace's Under-21s alongside Bannan and scored a brilliant lob in a 2-0 victory. "He was so good back in the day but playing against him close-up he showed how good he really is," Maddison said.
