FORM GUIDE: Coventry City looking to beat Rochdale for the first time in the league on Saturday

18 September 2014

Sky Blues will look to avenge their defeat at the hands of the Dale in the FA Cup Fourth Round 11 years ago…

Coventry City travel to Spotland on Saturday to take on a Rochdale side who have performed well since their promotion back to SkyBet League One.

The Dale currently sit 11th, and will be buoyed by their emphatic 4-0 win against Walsall in midweek.

The last time these two sides met in the league was all the way back in the 1925/26 season. In the old Division Three North, the Dale won 4-1 in their home fixture, with a 2-2 scoreline being the result in the return game.

The only other fixtures between the two teams have been in cup competitions. The Sky Blues won 4-1 on aggregate in the League Cup in 1991 and City made it all the way to the fourth round that year, eventually being knocked out by Tottenham Hotspur.

The FA Cup produced the only other tie in 2003, which saw the Dale produce a shock to send them through to the fifth round, beating City 2-0. They then met Wolves, losing 3-1.

The Sky Blues will be without the suspended Reda Johnson for Saturdays game, and will need to be wary of the attacking exploits of Rochdale, who are the joint-top goal scorers in the division.
