Sky Blues in the Community will be running an afternoon of coaching, games and competitions exclusively for females during this October half term.

The event - taking place on Wednesday 29th October from 1pm - 4pm, will recognise the official opening of the revamped Holbrooks Park changing and pitch facilities. Coventry City Council were recently awarded a grant of £242,660 by the Football Foundation to improve the facilities for use by local community teams.

The event also forms part of the Football League Trust-funded Female Football Development Scheme, which aims to get more girls into football and football-related activities. Over the last 12 months, the community team have been working with a number of local schools, clubs and other organisations to provide free coaching and activity sessions to females aged 14-25. In the first year of the project, over 360 females took part in activities organised by the community team.

Sky Blues in the Community Women and Girls lead coach Toni Wellings said "I am organising the girls element of this event to increase awareness of the women and girl's game and our work around promoting opportunities for females to get into football and football-related fitness activities.

"Both this event and our wider work aims to open activities to people of all abilities and fitness levels, encouraging participation from females across Coventry and Warwickshire."

Girls of all abilities aged 14-18 are welcome to attend the day, which will also see a number of special guests to officially unveil the new facilities.

Also in attendance on the day will be Sky Blues coaches working with players from Coventrians Football Club, as well as the brand new community scheme ‘speedshot’ inflatable, kindly supported by Midshires Business Solutions.

There are a limited number of spaces available for the day, which will be allocated on a first come first served basis. To find out more or to book a place, please contact Toni Wellings on 024 7678 6349 or email toni.wellings@ccfc.co.uk.
