'We deserved much more' - Clarke

Jordan Clarke also believes City aren't a 'relegation side' after the defeat to Gillingham...

Coventry City defender Jordan Clarke believes the Sky Blues deserved ‘something out of the game’ after the 4-2 defeat to Gillingham.

The home side were given an early platform when Dan Seaborne saw red for a foul on Cody McDonald, leaving Adebayo Akinfenwa to tuck away the first of his two penalties.

Callum Wilson netted his 18th of the season from the spot just after the break although Myles Weston restored the Gills’ lead shortly after.

Akinfenwa tucked away his second spot kick to give the hosts some breathing space but another penalty won by Wilson and converted by Baker set up a tense finish. The comeback wasn’t to be though as Jake Hessenthaler netted a 40-yard fourth for Peter Taylor's men to kill off any chance of a comeback which the Sky Blues deserved after a valiant performance despite being a man down for much of the game.

The City defender was left disappointed with the result despite a ‘good performance’.

Clarke said: “It is a tough one to take. I must say that we looked better than them even with ten men.

“I actually forgot we went down to ten men as we kept the ball much more than them and I thought we created a lot more opportunities which we really should have taken.

“The second half was a bit more open but we were still the better side. We’ve kept battling and played really well but a few decisions have gone against us.

“I don’t agree with two of the key decisions but that’s football. It was tough to take and we are going to have to try hard to recover.”
