Coventry City

Coventry City snatched a dramatic late point at home to Port Vale in a tense League Once encounter at Sixfields. 

A goal with less than 60 seconds on the clock followed by another midway through the second half gave visitors Port Vale a commanding lead but the Sky Blues dug in deep to take an excellent point 

Doug Loft made the most of some early indecision from the Sky Blues to Micky Adams team infront at the break despite the Sky Blues dominating proceedings for much of the opening 45 minutes.City 

Ben Williamson added a second for the visitors but Jordan Clarke headed home a free kick delivery from sub Mark Marshall with ten minutes to go before Callum Wilson netted a fine individual goal deep into injury time to give City a deserved point. 

Manager Steven Pressley made four changes to the Coventry City line up following the 4-2 away defeat at Gillingham on Tuesday, defenders Blair Adams and Cyrus Christie replacing Andy Webster and Dan Seabourne. 

Chuba Akpom and captain Carl Baker also returned in place of Franck Moussa and Nathan Delfouneso who started the match on the subs bench. 

In breezy conditions, Port Vale opened the scoring with less than a minute on the clock. A long ball over the top from visiting goal keeper Chris Neal led to midfielder Loft stabbing the ball past Joe Murphy to give Vale the lead. 

Callum Wilson almost replied for the Sky Blues instantly but despite being one on one with Neal, the striker couldn't find the back of the net following a leg save from the vale 'keeper. 

Baker had a shot which flashed just wide of the post after seven minutes and following more running from the industrious midfielder, Akpom found himself with a chance but could only find Neal's hands. 

Coventry began to put pressure on the Vale defence with Adams and Michael Petrasso linked up well to force two quick corners but the Valiants were able to deal with the set pieces. 

The visitors forced a fine save from Murphy with just under half an hour of the first half gone when striker Tom Pope tried to find the top corner but the goal keeper produced a finger tip save to tip the ball over the bar.

The equaliser almost came less than two minutes into the restart but Christie's ball was well held by 'keeper Neal.  Sub Delfouneso almost made an impact straight away but despite a good pass to Wilson, the 22 year old blasted the ball over the bar. 

A terrific run down the wing from Christie soon followed but the ball was deflected straight into the arms of Neal. 

After an hour on the clock, the Sky Blues ramped up the pressure again with sub Moussa orchestrating an opening but the chance fizzled out after a good block from a Vale defender and then Coventry had penalty appeals turned down after a foul in the box on Baker but the referee waved play on. 

With 73 minutes gone, Vale doubled their lead as Ben Williamson stabbed home Dickinson's cross past 'keeper Murphy. 

Moussa forced a fine stop out of Neal but it wasn't enough to give the Sky Blues a way back into the game. 

Pressley's men did find their way back into the match after a delicious ball in from Mark Marshall was rammed home by Jordan Clarke after 80 minutes which offered real hope of a come-back. 

Five minutes were left on the clock as captain Baker drove forward and unleashed a shot which was deflected over the bar. 

The come-back was complete in stoppage time after Wilson burst into the box and finished superbly to get a draw for the Sky Blues.
