CCFC performance analyst Paul Travis looks at Germany's prospects after the win over Algeria...

Germany 2-1 Algeria (AET)

Coventry City performance analyst Paul Travis provides his thoughts on Germany's extra time win over Algeria.

"I thought Algeria were excellent. They had a game-plan and I thought if they just had a bit more quality in the final third, they could have gone through. They had the chances, that's for sure.

"They caused Germany more problems than they've had all tournament. I don't think Germany should be worried. In tournament football, it is all about getting the win and they did that.

"It will need to improve in the quarter-final stage. Algeria showed they're a good side as well so it was probably a good test for them to get up to their top levels.

"A lot of their players are from Bayern Munich so we're seeing Germany play in very much the 'Pep' way. There is no point in changing the style of play when you've got so little time with the squad before a World Cup.

"Algeria played some great transition football like many teams at the World Cup. I don't think we're seeing a change in the way the game is being played, I just think every team has a different style.

"We've had teams try a lot of different styles over recent years, especially the Barcelona way. Teams have figured out how to play against that style though and Algeria did that well last night as they counter-attacked brilliantly.

"A lot of people have criticised Mesut Ozil's performance last night and it'll be fair to say it didn't happen for him last night. But, he never stopped wanting the ball and always tried to be positive.

"He has played for some incredible teams so he has got undoubted quality. He'll definitely come through and I'm sure his quality will pay off at some point in this tournament.

"Germany will look back in the history books and see this result without remembering the performance. If they go on to be successful, this is a huge result."

Prospects: I think the Germany - France game is going to be outstanding. Having watched both games, I'm backing Germany to win. France had a few problems with Oliver Giroud and Karim Benzema against Nigeria last night but I'm sure they'll change that for the Germany match.

Man of the Match: Andre Schurrle - I thought he was excellent when he came on. He was willing to stretch them and turn the other way which is what they needed. At times, he can make the wrong decision like shooting from distance but he brings so much energy.

Performance rating: Germany 8, Algeria 7
