Freak weather storm causes Coventry City friendly with Nuneaton Town at Liberty Way to be abandoned

19 July 2014

Torrential rain, lightning and gale force winds lead to friendly clash being called off in the second half

Coventry City's first friendly of their 2014/15 pre-season preparations was abandoned due to extreme weather conditions.

Torrential rain, thunder, lightning and gale force winds quickly descended on Liberty Way which forced match officials to remove players from the pitch just before the hour mark.

A subsequent pitch inspection, which was carried out once weather was deemed safe, forced officials to abandon the match while the Sky Blues were trailing 1-0 to a 37th minute goal from Boro skipper Gareth Dean.
