Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has named Reda Johnson as club captain for the 2014/15 League One season.

The experienced defender joined the Sky Blues this month on a free transfer after his contract expired at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

Johnson, who is currently on international duty with Benin, will captain the side next season and Pressley has lauded the defenders qualities.

The City boss said: "I spoke with Carl Baker last week about my intentions to change the captaincy and have decided after much deliberation to name Reda Johnson as club captain for next season.

"There were obviously a number of candidates within the squad but I felt Reda had the necessary qualities to lead the side.

"He has great experience in Championship football and also has experienced promotion from this division. He brings stature, strength and mentality to the group and I'm sure he will prove to be a popular figure with our supporters."
