New signing Danny Swanson says he wants to be back plying his trade in the Championship and he wants to do that with Coventry City.

The 27-year-old penned a two-year deal with the Sky Blues on Thursday, making him City boss Steven Pressley's first signing of the summer.

The attacking midfielder kicks off his pre-season with the Sky Blues at Ryton today and he said that he can't wait to get started.

"I'm delighted to get a deal done because Coventry City is a big club," he said.

"The talks I had with the manager had a massive influence on my decision. He's been fantastic and it's pretty clear that he knows what he wants to do with the club and the direction he wants to take it.

"I can't wait to get going. The manager places a huge importance on fitness because of the intensity that he likes to play and train at and the way he likes his team to press the game and that's great news for me because that's what I like."

The former Peterborough and Dundee United wideman added that the Sky Blues's form in 2013/14 and the way in which they nearly made themselves play-ff contenders despite a ten-point deduction played a role in his decision to join the club.

"When I was at Peterborough we were worried about Coventry catching us even with the points deduction they had last season. We naturally assumed that they would go down but the way the team responded despite having ten points taken away was incredible.

"I really feel that Coventry City is going places. We just need to get back on track and hopefully this year can be our year.

"The training ground blew me away. I saw it as I was driving in and thought to myself that this is where I want to train.

"I'm excited about playing football again and while the manager is obviously focused on fitness he also wants to get the footballs out as son as possible so I'm really looking forward to that.

"I know a couple of players here already like John Fleck from his time at Rangers and Andy Webster who was my captain, and a very good one, when we won the Scottish Cup at Dundee United.

I want to be playing in the Championship again and hopefully I can do that with Coventry."
