A guide to Coventry City on social media plus useful hints and tips!

31 July 2014

Have a read through the Sky Blues' efforts on social media plus hints and tips on engaging with us and the team and guidelines

CCFC and Social Media

Coventry City is continuing to engage and interact with supporters via our official Social Media channels. Both Twitter and Facebook are fantastic ways for the club to keep everyone informed, gain feedback and give our supporters live updates as and when news breaks.

Policy for fans:

While Coventry City Football Club welcomes the many positive comments supporting the club, we do appreciate supporters are entitled to comment and criticise where appropriate.

However, tweets and facebook comments which are threatening, abusive, discriminative, insulting or contain obscene language go beyond what is considered ‘fair comment’. As a family club and as part of the local community, if this situation arises we will not hesitate to take appropriate action against the individuals concerned.

Why Coventry City FC use Social Media

At the click of a button we can communicate messages directly to our supporters at home, work or while they are out and about. By following these official accounts, our supporters will have access to the latest news and content from the Sky Blues. These are the only official Twitter and Facebook sites, so you are ensured to get the correct information you need direct from CCFC. We also monitor the sites regularly so where we can we will respond to any questions and feedback you may have.

What we post

We will post the latest news and content from the Sky Blues from all areas of the club; matters on and off the field, ticketing, community, commercial, retail- everything which our fans need to know!

Pre match we will post all the buildup and views from the squad and on a matchday, we will keep you informed of what is going in the form of squad lists and match updates- whether the Sky Blues are home or away.

Who updates social media

Staff from the Sky Blues’ Marketing Department update our social media channels throughout the week, while our Communications Department brings you any breaking news from Ryton plus full coverage from our matches up and down the country.

Matchdays

The official Facebook and Twitter accounts will provide updates of the key incidents at each match. The best place to go for minute by minute updates is ‘The Wall’, which you can access via ccfc.co.uk on a matchday.

We also encourage you to send us pictures of your matchday buildup and thoughts ahead of the day, and of course post match reaction. We may even feature these in our matchday programmes!

Replying to Fans

With the amount of fans we are currently engaging and interacting with, it is hard sometimes to respond to everyone. Nevertheless, we will always do our best to respond to your questions so we can constantly keep you in the know and engaged with what's happening at CCFC. There are, however, some occasions where it is not appropriate for the club to give you a response to your question. While we respond to questions as quickly as we can, please bear in mind responses may be delayed outside of ‘office hours’ and at weekends.

The hashtags we use on Twitter and Facebook…and why we use them...

A hashtag (#) is a way to categorise your tweet and join in conversations with other followers. The main hashtags we try to use are:

#pusb - This is shorthand for ‘Play Up Sky Blues’. This is taken from the lyrics of the Sky Blue Song, which was written by then Manager Jimmy Hill and Director John Camkin in 1962, and is a phrase often used by Coventry City fans.

#skyblues - This refers to our nickname ‘The Sky Blues’ and the colour of our home kit. We have played in Sky Blue since 1962.

We also use other hashtags depending on the stories which we are publishing.

Likes and retweets

In many cases we can and will retweet you or like your Facebook post. There are, however, some occasions where it is not appropriate for the club to give you a retweet.

Official Coventry City Facebook page guidelines

Our guidelines appear on the ‘About’ section of our Facebook page, and are also shown below:

The Official Coventry City Football Club Facebook page is a place for you to share your Coventry City views and opinions with us and other fans, and for us as a club to communicate directly with you. We appreciate that every fan has their own views and opinions regarding everything to do with the club, and we encourage Sky Blues fans to share their thoughts with us and their fellow supporters.

However, we would like to remind fans that this is a family-friendly page which is accessible to supporters who are under the age of 16. Therefore, any comments posted which include language or content that may be considered as inappropriate, inflammatory, offensive or spam will be moderated and in most cases removed.

CCFC staff monitor the Official Facebook page daily to ensure that this page is a safe, enjoyable and inclusive environment for all Sky Blues supporters.

We would also like to remind everyone that this page is subject to the terms and conditions of Facebook which you can view HERE. If any user feels that there is unwelcome content on our pages, you can notify Facebook’s team of moderators by clicking ‘report’ or e-mailing abuse@facebook.com.
