'We can cause an upset' - Thomas

14 January 2014

City midfielder Conor Thomas believes the side's habit of scoring goals bodes well for the trip to the Emirates...

Coventry City Midfielder Conor Thomas says that the upcoming fourth round FA Cup game away at Arsenal will be a great test for Steven Pressley’s side.

Thomas missed the game against the Gunners last season in the League Cup due to injury, but did play against Tottenham in the FA Cup, playing well and scoring a goal, which was disallowed.

The 20-year old is back training after being stretched off against Rotherham on New Years Day, and says that the game can be enjoyed without any pressure.

“For the game (against Arsenal), there is no pressure on us to do anything. We just have to enjoy the occasion.

“I’m sure the fans will travel down and do the same thing as well.

“When you get to play against (the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham) it’s great because it’s the best of the best.

“From a personal point of view and the squad’s point of view, you can see where you’re at, because it’s where you want to get in your career.”

Coventry-born Thomas said that the Sky Blues’ being the second highest scoring team in the top four English divisions gives the whole squad a boost.

“Scoring so many goals gives us great confidence too. If we conceded less we would be more than alright!

“But scoring goals does give us confidence to score no matter where we play.

“There might be an upset, you never know. But we’ve just got to enjoy the game.”
