'They're aggressive in their play'

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley wants his players to be wary of the threat Preston pose from wide positions...

Ahead of the trip to Deepdale tomorrow, Coventry City manager Steven Pressley is warning the Sky Blues to be wary of an in-form Preston North End.

Preston host City on the back of an impressive victory against Championship side Ipswich Town in the week and are on a good run in the league, despite losing to Wolves in their last league game.

He said “It will be a very hard game, they had a terrific result against a very good championship side on Tuesday night and that was very positive for them.

“Preston are going very well in the league, they are a very experienced side, and they've got good know-how.”

Despite the Sky Blues being on a run of only one loss in 10 games, Pressley is concentrating on the opposition’s impressive run of only four defeats in the league this season.

The City boss said: “They've gone in front this season in 17 games, and in all 17 games they've taken the lead, they have never lost a game.

“I think that in itself shows the type of mentality, the type of experience they have in the group, it’s a really, really difficult game this weekend for us.”

Part of every manager’s job is to study the opposite team’s style of play and adapt training to prepare the squad. The Sky Blues boss has done his homework and has identified the wing play of Preston as the main focal point of their attack.

Pressley explained: “They like to get the ball into the wide areas then into the box, they are dangerous from cross balls and set-plays.

“They play with a left footer on the right and a right footer on the left and they cut back and deliver into those areas, they are dangerous from there and get a lot goals.

“They are very aggressive in their play and they know what they are about and we need to stand up to that, we’re going to have to stop them being effective at what they do.”
