'It's a big step for me' - Slager

City's new striker Denzel Slager has also praised the way the Sky Blues play the game....

New Coventry City signing Denzel Slager believes he will suit the English game, following his move from RKC Waalwijk.

The Dutch 20-year old has signed for the Sky Blues’ on an 18-month contract and started his first game on Saturday, in the FA Cup win over Barnsley.

Slager played 57 minutes on his debut during the 2-1 win at Oakwell, and was replaced by Adam Barton.

The forward says he is looking forward to the challenge of playing in League One, and is confident that he has come to a good club.

“It feels great to be playing (for Coventry), and for the deal to finally go through. I spoke to the manager about coming in the summer.”

“It’s great to come here and play in England, because every footballer wants to come and test ourselves at this level.”

Slager has described himself as a ‘fast’ player, something that he says will suit the English game.

“Everything’s a little faster paced here, especially when compared to Holland. But that’s good because I’m fast; I’m a fast striker. And I love to score goals. I like it, it suits my game.”

The 20-year old says that he has received a great welcome at the club, something which has made settling in a lot easier.

“It was a big step (moving to England), I’ve always lived in Holland, but I’ve been received well by all the players and that means a lot.

“Training has been really good as well, the manager and every one of the players has made me feel very welcome, so I’m happy.”

Slager has also been full of praise of his new team-mates.

“I like the way Coventry play football, they like to play good football, I like that, it’s good for them and for me. I like to come inside and make assists. We have a good team here.

“In the Eredivisie (the Dutch Premier League), every club likes to play passing football, but in League One some teams play it long, but that is not so here. I really like it here.”
