'It was a magnificent experience'

27 January 2014

City midfielder Billy Daniels hopes the side can bring confidence into the Orient match after the Arsenal trip...

Versatile Sky Blues midfielder Billy Daniels wants to learn from the FA Cup defeat at Premier League side Arsenal and build upon playing against such opposition.

Although the 19-year old was obviously disappointed with the result, he says the result should be put into perspective by the team Arsenal fielded at the Emirates.

He said: “They’re world stars, and playing against them was a great experience and you can only learn from it.

“We have got to be confident in ourselves and push on from this result, as it was a great experience.”

Playing in such a stadium and atmosphere can often make players nervous, but Daniels says that although he felt the nerves, they have been able to learn from it.

The city midfielder said: “I wasn't too nervous, you get the little butterflies before the game, but once you're out there you focus on the game.

“It was magnificent, playing in front of 50,000 people, the pitch, the atmosphere, it was a great occasion to be a part of.

“We've learnt to deal with the atmosphere and occasion. It is good because you can see how far away you are from how they are to how you are.”

Arsenal scored two goals in each half, but there was a noticeable improvement in the second half, with the Sky Blues creating a number of chances, and the midfielder is pleased the way the team reacted after the break.

He said: “Second half, we set out to press them further up the pitch and it seemed to work. We managed to get through a bit and create chances for ourselves.

“Obviously last five minutes our legs had gone and that’s when we conceded, but the lads have got to be tremendously pleased with that performance.”

City do not have long to reflect on the Arsenal result, with the team visiting Leyton Orient on Tuesday night, Daniels is hoping to go into that game with confidence despite defeat.

“We want to go to there confident from today, get three points and start pushing up the league again.”
