Sky Blues hopeful on rubber stamping 18-month deal for striker subject to domestic and international ratification

Coventry City are hoping to complete the signing of young striker Denzel Slager from Dutch top flight side RKC Waalwijk.

The 20-year-old forward has agreed an 18-month deal which would keep him with the Sky Blues until the summer of 2015 although the deal is subject to ratifaction from the FA and Football League.

His eligibility for City's away FA Cup third round trip to Barnsley on Saturday, January 4th is also dependent on international clearance.

The youngster made 14 appearances for RKC Waalwijk in the Dutch Eredivisie but impressed City boss Steven Pressley during a recent trial spell with the Sky Blues.

Pressley stressed though that while he hopes to involve Slager in the first team should he get the deal across the line, the signing would be one made with future development in mind.

He said: "Denzel was a player that interested us in the summer and we had an opportunity to bring him over to train in our environment.

"During that period we saw what we believe to be very good potential.

"Like every player at the club Denzel would be fighting for a place in the first team but we most certainly see him as one for the future so we wouldn't want to put too much pressure on him too soon."
