Minute's applause for Sir Tom Finney

18 February 2014

Coventry City Football Club asks fans to join in a minute's applause ahead of tonight's clash with Carlisle in memory of the late Sir Tom Finney

There will be a minute's applause before Coventry City take on Carlisle United tonight, in memory of the great Sir Tom Finney who passed away at the age of 91 last Friday.

Sir Thomas Finney, CBE, played 76 times for England and spent his entire 14-year career with his hometown club, Preston North End.

Football League Chairman, Greg Clarke said: "He was quite possibly the finest player to have ever played in The Football League and was a true gentleman. He was also the epitome of the one club man with few people ever having contributed as much to a single team, their city or our competition.

"He will be greatly missed by the English game".

We ask fans to join the two sides in applause before kick-off tonight as a mark of respect.
