Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley also sees a partnership forming between Callum Wilson and Chuba Akpom..
Coventry City manager Steven Pressley believes his side has the ‘winning mentality’ to get over a ‘tough recent period’, ahead of Sunday’s SkyBet League One clash against Shrewsbury Town.
The Sky Blues have lost the last three games; the first time it’s happened this season, and the boss wants to use Sunday as a chance to get back to winning ways.
“It’s been a great season, and the players have progressed really well,” said the City manager, “but I said that there would be good times and tough times this season, and at the moment we’re in the latter.
“The last three weeks have been disappointing. But we have our game Sunday, and my target is always to win the next game.”
Pressley wants to try and maintain the squads ‘winning mentality’, after a sometimes challenging season that sees City currently sit in 14th place.
“We’ve got a thin, young squad, and the ten-point deduction gave us no breathing space, and we’ve done brilliantly to be where we are.
“There are things that have been thrown our way, such as the poor pitches we’ve been playing on.
“We need to continue to develop a mentality where we can handle anything that is thrown at us.”
Callum Wilson has returned to training and is in contention to start Sunday against the Shrews, and Pressley believes that Wilson will be able to play well alongside on-loan striker Chuba Akpom.
“Callum and Chuba have looked good together in training. The first signs are good, they’re both good players, they’re both intelligent players.
“Hopefully they can come together and form a quick partnership for us.”
