Coventry City 3-2 Leeds United - Under-18s come from behind to take three points

20 December 2014

Goals from Kyle Barnett, George Thomas and Devon Kelly-Evans secured City's win in their final game of the year...

Coventry City Under-18s ended the year with a win and came from behind in a 3-2 victory over Leeds United at the Alan Higgs Centre.

Goals from Kyle Barnett, George Thomas and Devon Kelly-Evans effort secured the victory which helps the young Sky Blues keep momentum with the top two Huddersfield and Birmingham.

City fell behindon 25 minutes when Leeds' Robbie McDaid latched onto a cross at the back-post to head narrowly past Corey Addai's left-hand post.

But City were level just four minutes later, when Thomas' right-sided corner looped into the air and Barnett beat his marker to head into the corner from eight-yards.

The Sky Blues continued to build momentum and netted a truely brilliant second goal, when Cian Harries' raking pass from centre-half found Thomas who plucked the ball out of the sky magestically, before lobbing the 'keeper with a wonderful deft touch from just outside the area.

Against the run of play though the Sky Blues conceded the equaliser, when Bell picked up the ball 20-yards out and hit a clean strike into the bottom right-hand corner.

The second-half was a scrappy affair and Callum Maycock was booked for a robust challenge. There were few chances as both teams looked to take the upper hand, but the hosts took the lead with ten minutes to go, when Devon Kelly-Evans picked the ball up 20-yards out and his shot was deflected in by a Leeds defender to give the Sky Blues the winner.

The second-half was marred by a serious-looking injury to a Leeds player, where oxygen was needed and an ambulance called.

But after the long delay, City kept their heads and were solid as they saw out the game to deservedly take three points and end the year with another victory.
