Coventry City 0-2 Nottingham Forest - A Young Under 21s side defeated at Liberty Way

Coventry City Under-21s battled valiantly but were beaten 2-0 by an experienced Nottingham Forest side at Nuneaton Town's Liberty Way.

The Sky Blues side featured seven of the Under-18s side which went to extra-time on Friday, as well as Seb Hines who made his comeback from a hamstring injury.

The first-half was a closely contested affair, but the visitors went the closest on 12 minutes when Oliver Burke burst into the area, but his low, powerful effort struck the post and bounced out to safety.

Josh Rees then produced a moment of magic for Forest on 40 minutes, when he flicked the ball over onrushing defender Cian Harries in the area and launched a vicious volley goalward which Reice Charles-Cook did well to stop.

The second-half started in a similar vein and the first real chance fell to Reds' defender Kelvin Morgan, as he latched onto a free-kick which wasn't cleared but his firm strike from eight-yards was well parried away by Charles-Cook.

But the opener came on 57 minutes, when a deep cross to the back-post was met by Burke who powered a header into the right corner.

On 65 minutes, manager Darren Murray made all three substitutions, bringing on three first-year scholars in the form of Callum Maycock, Jay Albini and Bassala Sambou for Trialist, Jordan Shipley and Ben Stevenson.

This meant the Sky Blues would finish the game with eight players aged 18 or younger, but the visitors, who had a number of experienced pro's, found the second on 69 minutes when Roger Riera Canadell nodded in a beautiful delivery from the left-hand side at the near-post.

Forest could have had a third when Burke's whipped cross from the right was headed against the underside of the bar by substitute Todorov. But that was the last of the action as the young City side were defeated.
