MATCH REPORT: Stevenage 2-1 Coventry City

2 August 2014

Sky Blues try to fight back after going two down through a pair of penalties but Tudgay goal could not spur City on for an equaliser at the Lamex

Coventry City capped off their frantic run of pre-season fixtures with a 2-1 defeat to Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium.

After a fairly quiet first half the game exploded into life in the second half when Boro substitute Roarie Deacon netted two penalties in the space of six minutes.

Marcus Tudgay grabbed one back for City with his second goal of pre-season but the Sky Blues could not find an equaliser.

Conor Thomas got things going with a tame effort after 12 minutes which went just wide of the foot of the post and Marcus Tudgay did the same, but with a slightly better connection, seven minutes later with an effort he pulled across the face of goal.

The next effort of purpose on goal did not come until four minutes before the break and it came from Stevenage when Charlie Lee's stinging effort was parried away by Burge.

The home side found themselves two goals up within six minutes though after a relatively eventless game up to that point.

Reda Johnson brought down a Boro trialist in the box after 56 minutes and substitute Roarie Deacon converted from the spot.

Six minutes later Deacon doubled the advantage from the spot again after Jordan Clarke was penalised for a foul on Adam Marriott in the area, Deacon again making no mistake to give the hosts a comfortable cushion.

City responded in encouraging fashion though and pulled one back after 72 minutes with Tudgay's second goal of pre-season. A ball from Jim O'Brien released Kelly-Evans down the right who cut inside his man before laying a ball back to Thomas. The midfielder in turn stabbed a ball into the box for Tudgay who provided a calm finish into the bottom corner beyond the reach of Beasant.

The Sky Blues continued to look for an equaliser as the game approached it's final stages but a leveller was not on the cards for Pressley's side.
