MATCH REPORT: Coventry City U21s 2-2 Sheffield United U21s - Goals from Dion Kelly-Evans and George Thomas secure a point

The Sky Blues were held to a point by the Blades after an impressive performance from a young City side...

Coventry City Under-21s were held to a draw by Sheffield United after a lively second-half at Ryton training ground.

After a goalless first-half, Dion Kelly-Evans followed up his goal for the Under-18s on Saturday with a well-worked goal before Luke Berry's header leveled the tie in the 58th minute. George Thomas put City back in front with 22 minutes remaining but Dominic Calvert-Lewin secured a point for the Blades in the 74th minute.

City dominated the first-half and should have gone ahead in the 13th minute when Devon Kelly-Evans slid the trialist in behind but his shot was well saved.

The impressive Mohamed Coulibaly almost created a chance for Simeon Jackson after he beat three defenders on the right but his cross was just behind the City striker in the 22nd minute.

Jackson almost got his goal five minutes later when he latched onto a lofted ball and chipped the keeper but Blades defender Sam Berry cleared the effort off the line.

City were rewarded for their dominance three minutes after the break when Coulibaly rounded the out-coming keeper to put in Dion Kelly-Evans to slot home and put City ahead.

It only took 11 minutes for the away side to equalise when Berry headed home a left-sided free-kick from the six-yard box but City continued to push forward.

The goal of the game came when James Maddison found space in midfield and threaded through an outstanding through-ball for substitute George Thomas who lifted the ball above the keeper in the 68th minute.

Blades substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed home a left-sided cross six minutes later with his first touch but City could have won the game late on.

Substitute Kyle Spence broke through the middle of the pitch and turned his defender but the keeper saved well with five minutes remaining to hold City to a draw.
