Sky Blues boss to give new striker run out in Under 21s to gradually increase his match fitness

New Coventry City signing Simeon Jackson marked his Sky Blues debut with an 11-minute cameo in Tuesday night's 2-2 stalemate with Barnsley but is expected to put in 45 minutes for the Under 21s in their season opener against Swansea City on Wednesday.

Darren Murray's development side take on the Swans at Liberty Way on Wednesday afternoon (kick off 3pm) and City boss Steven Pressley says he wants to ease his new striker in after the absence of a pre-season for the 27-year-old.

"I thought Simeon was terrific when he came on. You look at his movement and it's the type of movement that I believe will get us goals this season," Pressley said.

"We have to be mindful though that he has had no pre-season. He's been the total professional, working hard on his own to maintain his fitness but there's no substitute for playing games as part of a group.

"We don't want to run the risk of setting him back or him picking up any injuries so we are going to give him 45 minutes with the Under 21s and build him up gradually."
