'We deserved a point' - Callum Wilson

12 April 2014

The City striker has also claimed he is confident he can end the season on top of the scoring charts...

Coventry City striker Callum Wilson believes the Sky Blues should have got the draw City 'deserved' after 1-0 defeat to Peterborough United.

The Poash won the tie thanks to an early Kgosi Ntlhe header from a Danny Swanson corner  from six yards after just five minutes.

The Sky Blues dominated the second half and should have pulled level but Nathan Eccleston and substitute Nathan Delfouneso missed chances for Steven Pressley's side.

Wilson, who admitted he had a frustrating afternoon at London Road, believes City should have had a reward for their second half efforts.

The City striker said: "It was always going to be a difficult game but we made it harder for ourselves when we conceded the early goal.

"It is always disappointing to concede from a corner. We've worked a lot on set-pieces in training so it was frustrating for us.

"We did much better in second half though and definitely deserved something out of the game. We had a lot of chances and really should have pulled level.

"If you count up the chances we had, we could have maybe built on a goal if we'd have scored it."

The Coventry-born striker is tied at the top of the League One scoring charts with Peterborough United striker Britt Assombalonga and Bristol City striker Sam Baldock, who scored against Walsall this afternoon.

Despite a lack of chances at London Road, Wilson is confident he will be able to score enough goals to seal the top spot in the scoring charts.

He added: "It was a difficult afternoon for me. I usually like the ball played into my feet and down the line but I didn't have much service today.

"I wanted to get them down the line and hit them with my pace but I wasn't able to do that. I had one chance where I took the ball past the keeper but the defender came back.

"Obviously, Baldock scored today so it is pretty close between us three at the top. Jordan did well to keep Britt Assombalonga quiet for me.

"I'm confident that by the end of the season I'll be top of the charts."
