Coventry City manager Steven Pressley gets charity game in aid of Grace Research Fund underway

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley turned referee to help raise funds for the club’s nominated charity.

Local firms Deeley Construction and Travis Perkins staged a football match at North Leamington School helping to raise money for the Grade Research Fund.

The charity, which funds research to improve the health and wellbeing of premature babies and their families in Coventry and Warwickshire, has had its logo on the front of the Sky Blues shirts throughout the season and held a special fundraising event at City’s last game of the season.

Pressley, who lives locally, came along to watch the Deeley and Travis Perkins in action and blew the first whistle to get the game underway.

He said: “We have been associated with Grace Research Fund throughout the season and it has been great to help out a local charity which undertakes such valuable work.

“The two teams played the game in what only can be described as atrocious conditions, it was just a constant downpour but they battled on. I am not sure Sky Blue Sam has dried out yet!

“Local charities depend on events and fundraisers like this, so I was more than happy to get proceedings under way.”

The game was organised by Edward Hudson, business development co-ordinator at Deeley Construction.

He said: “We have supported Grace Research Fund over many years and when we worked with Travis Perkins on their new base at Queensway in Leamington, we thought it would be good to take them on at football raising money for our chosen charities.

“Their company charity is the Breast Cancer Campaign, so both good causes benefited. We were really pleased that Steven came along – it was a very wet night and the day before the Wolves game, so we really appreciate his involvement.”

Deeley Construction hopes to raise around £750 from the game for Grace Research Fund.
