Coventry City striker takes the award for Sky Bet League One Player of the Month

Coventry City striker Callum Wilson has been handed the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month award for March after netting seven goals in his last seven games.

The 22-year-old's goalscoring form over the past few weeks returned him to the top of the League One scoring chart following a two-month absence due to a shoulder injury.

Wilson returned to action for the 2-1 home win over Walsall where he picked up as he left off, scoring against the Saddlers to spark a five-game run of consecutive goals to equal a record set by former City legend Mick Quinn.

He did not get on the scoresheet for the 1-0 win over Stevenage but did go on to net a double in the 2-1 away win over Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road to help record City's first-back-to-back wins in the league since November and make it a magnificent seven goals in as many games.

Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley said: "I'm absolutely delighted for Callum. His work ethic and determination have been second to none all season and it's really pleasing for me to see him getting rewarded.

"To see the way he has got himself straight back into scoring form after more than two months out is a testament to the boy and he fully deserves to be recognised for it.

"If he continues to apply himself in the way that he has I'm sure this will be the first of many."

Wilson pipped Sheffield United midfielder Michael Doyle, Notts County striker Ronan Murray and Rotherham full-back James Tavernier to the award.
